Atlanta’s Mayor is Catering to White Gentrifiers and LGBTQ Community in Allowing the Beltline and Parks to Remain Open. #Covoid19 #Coronovirus
Keisha Lance Bottoms, is using the Covoid19 pandemic to play politics with the residents of Atlanta. In a seemingly attempt to one up Republican Governor Brian Kemp; she issued another order for 14 days for all residents of Atlanta to stay in place…well all residents but the white gentrifiers who have taken over the once so-called Black mecca of the south. Had these locations been popular hangouts for Black people, Keisha would have demanded their closure from the start. Atlanta’s beltline is where you can take your pooch to a fancy dog restaurant for coffee and a playdate.
What makes this such a joke is that she made sure to state that Atlanta’s new trendy beltline, that offers greenspace and walking trails for white gentrifiers who have displaced Atlanta’s poor communities, are allowed to stay open. She also has kept Piedmont Park open, which is a known hotbed for illicit behavior and soliciting of sex and other deviant and unsavory acts, but is also a favorite of Atlanta’s gay community. Keisha is ensuring that she doesn’t inconvenience her favorite benefactors, Atlanta’s white gays and white liberal/hipster gentrifiers.
What logical sense is a stay in place order, work from home, and the closing of restaurants to the public, yet leaving parks and recreational spaces open? The beltline was packed this past weekend and no one was social distancing. The local news showed the large and condensed crowds on the beltline. The imagery was no different than the scenes on Florida beaches. So why is Keisha getting a pass and even lauded for this pathetic order she’s announced?
If the Covoid19 virus is as contagious as stated, and that it’s airborne and lives several days on inanimate objects, why would the mayor think leaving public spaces like these open to the public logical or more importantly, safe?
I don’t know what’s more insulting, the Mayors lame and contradictory order, or the people within the tweets that are blindly applauding her for this utter joke. We really do get the politicians we deserve. This is insane and embarrassing on so many levels.
