Is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Sarah Palin of the Left?

I know this will anger many but bare with me a moment on my question and critique. I was willing to give Ocasio a semi-pass and hopes that her original response to Israel and Palestine was just a rookie mistake born out of media fear and intimidation, and that she would soon come out in full condemnation of Israelā€™s murderous reign and apartheid. It appears now that I was wrong.

Watching her over the last few weeks being paraded around as though she were a celebrity, and witnessing her many blunders and valley girl type responses, has made the comparison of Sarah Palin an easy one for me. She has said that she has no geo-political knowledge in her poor response on Israel/Palestine. Yet, it would also appear that she has no knowledge of her own platform and how she would implement her much lauded socialist agenda. The below video was beyond hard to watch.

Iā€™m also confused how Ocasio mocks the generational gaps of the establishment (although I agree on the age issue and past time for them all to go etc.,), all while spending the last several weeks running around the country with Bernie Sanders whoā€™s damn near an octogenarianā€¦and also one of the oldest and longest serving members on the hill. Clearly for Ocasio, ā€˜oldā€™ establishment politicians are great when sheā€™s being used by them to promote her own celebrity. Someone may need to tell Ocasio, that the establishment on both sides of the isles are old and out of touch, but thereā€™s also something to be said for being young and completely ignorant of policy and seemingly unwilling to do the research to change. Thatā€™s actually very Palinesque.

Unlike many others, I donā€™t find the word ā€˜socialistā€™ to be a dirty word but I would like to see those who stand on that principle to be able to articulate to the public exactly what they mean by its use. Ocasio seems to be conflicted and contradictory in her views and that alone should be troubling for anyone who cares about a true Progressive agenda and/or candidate. What exactly is Ocasio stating in the below tweet? Since when has the GOP been weak on crime, national security, or even family values for that matter? How is the GOP weak on national security, when itā€™s Ocasio who is calling for open borders and an end to ICE? Is she asking that the GOP put more systemic police measures in place that continue to plague Black & Brown people? Also, does Ocasio think that the Democratic Party has been fighting for working class Americans? Isnā€™t that what her socialist platform is about and why she claims to be anti-establishment democrat and also why she says sheā€™s different? Iā€™m confused on who Ocasio actually is and what she actually represents, other than smooth talking points and rhetoricā€¦that clearly seems to have no real meaning to her.

Amazingly, Ocasio has not been able to articulate a coherent or cohesive sentence since she was whisked into the spotlight. She should have immediately sat down with someone with policy experience and a PR/media expert to improve upon her knowledge and her media presence. There are no excuses for her many blunders at this point. I did see her Cuomo interview and found it to be a nice, safe, truthful and catchy statement on funding wars but never having the money for healthcare. However, if she were really sincere she would have also added the outrageous billions we give to Israel to commit the atrocities and outright war crimes against Palestinians. Instead it was nice campaign rhetoric with no depth nor range of knowledge to article herself any further than her new talking point.

I actually blame Bernie Sanders just as much as I blame Ocasio for all of this and for the embarrassment of their many loses on Tuesday. Had he not used her recent rise to supposed fame to run across the country to campaign for others in that manner, those loses would have been all his. She should have immediately declined his offers and worked in her own community, especially since he did not support her during the primaries. Sheā€™s now tainted herself unnecessarily and also shinned an even brighter light unto the much needed Progressive agenda, to now be used as fodder and an excuse for the establishment on both sides to mock and further deny the need for change.

Whether we like it or not, Ocasioā€™s win against Crowley was merely a fluke, and had he and the DNC not assumed (taken for granted) that he would win and actually campaigned, there would never have been the very small turnout victory that even she was shocked to have won.

Lastly, I sincerely wish people would stop making politicians celebrities and placing them on untouchable pedestals. This is a bad path to continue to takeā€¦weā€™ve been there, done that and got a smooth talking Noble Peace Prize winner and thousands of drones after to prove it. Ocasio is quickly proving how easy it is for her to be manipulated, and how much she seeks and loves the limelight over actual policies and standing firm on the beliefs she was originally supported for.
